Learn to access and desensitize trauma networks in EMDR Phases 3 and 4 with Dr. Jennifer Sweeton. In Phase 3, discover how to activate the trauma network by pairing the worst image with the negative cognition (NC), taking a SUDS “temperature check” to ensure activation. Move into Phase 4, exploring desensitization techniques like bilateral stimulation (BLS) using eye movements, tapping, or walking. Dr. Sweeton will compare EMD (restricted) and EMDR (unrestricted) processing, detailing steps like conducting 20–180-second BLS iterations and tracking SUDS reductions. Learn tips like using a “time out signal” and avoiding redirection during EMD to keep focus on the target. This webinar equips you with practical skills to safely reduce clients’ trauma-related distress, enhancing your EMDR toolkit.

What You’ll Learn:

1.  Activate Trauma-Related Networks:
Understand how to identify and activate relevant neural circuits connected to traumatic memories during EMDR sessions.

2. Use Bilateral Stimulation Effectively:
Learn how eye movements or other bilateral techniques desensitise distressing experiences and lower affective intensity.

3. Support Emotional Processing:
Explore how EMDR phases 3–4 help integrate fragmented memories and reduce fear- based responses.

4. Apply Neuro-Informed Approaches:
Translate neuroscience principles into practical steps for working with traumatic memory activation in EMDR.

Jennifer Sweeton

Dr. Jennifer Sweeton, PsyD, JD, MS, MA is a clinical and forensic psychologist, best-selling author, and internationally recognized expert in trauma and the neuroscience of mental health. She completed her clinical training at the Stanford University PGSP Consortium, with additional education in neuroscience at Stanford, Harvard, and the University of Kansas.
