Discover how EMDR rewrites traumatic memories in this webinar with Dr. Jennifer Sweeton. Focusing on memory reconsolidation, a key mechanism of EMDR, learn how recalling a trauma memory retrieves its most recent version—not the original—allowing desensitization and change. Dr. Sweeton will break down the three steps of trauma reconsolidation: activating the trauma network, integrating an incongruent experience (like distraction), and repeating this process iteratively. Explore practical ways to activate “hot” memories using negative cognitions or sensations, and how bilateral stimulation (BLS) facilitates reconsolidation by introducing new, adaptive information. Understand why this process reduces the emotional charge of trauma, helping clients move past distressing memories. This webinar offers actionable insights for therapists to harness reconsolidation in EMDR, enhancing trauma treatment outcomes with a neuroscience-backed approach.

Jennifer Sweeton

Dr. Jennifer Sweeton, PsyD, JD, MS, MA is a clinical and forensic psychologist, best-selling author, and internationally recognized expert in trauma and the neuroscience of mental health. She completed her clinical training at the Stanford University PGSP Consortium, with additional education in neuroscience at Stanford, Harvard, and the University of Kansas. She also recently graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law. Dr. Sweeton has trained over 30,000 mental health professionals in evidence-based trauma therapies, including EMDR, and is the author of several books, including Trauma Treatment Toolbox.
